2001: A Space Odyssey 50th Anniversary tribute illustration
This is my tribute to the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick - in the year of it's 50th anniversary.
In the spirit of the famous tag line "the ultimate trip" I came up with an idea that represented as much of what the film means to me as possible in as visual and bold a way as I could.
It's supposed to be viewed in the orientation shown, but it also can be rotated any way to shown different details better and reflect the gravity defying scenes in the movie itself.
The picture itself is 4:9 ratio to echo the famous monolith's size ratios (1:4:9) and the monolith itself it the central feature, with everything else framed in similar ratio sections.
Included in the illustration are HAL 9000, Dave Bowman (in multiple forms!), Frank Poole, Discovery, the EVA pod, the Moon (with Tycho crater prominent), Jupiter and the early hominid hurling a bone towards the sky.
Finally I added visual effects to echo the stargate sequence towards the end of the film and tie all the sections together.
I really hope you like it!
