This is a personal project to traditionally paint a poster illustration for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I've done several digital poster illustrations recently but decided to try a large scale traditional painting in the spirit of the original Drew Struzan Star Wars posters.
Drew is a legend in poster illustration of course, so to do something to compare with his work was an impossible task, especially not having done a traditional piece like this before. Overall though I'm very happy with the final work - there are a lot of things I would do differently if I started again, and that's how it should be! This took about a week to design and another week to paint and I had a huge amount of fun working on it and will definitely be doing more very soon.
Below is the final piece with text added in Photoshop, and below that a few photos taken during the process of working. I hope you like it! If you are interested in commissioning an original traditional poster painting like this, please contact me.
The painting is pencil and acrylic paint on 30x40" illustration board.
This painting is for sale - please contact me if you are interested in purchasing it.
(Apologies for the poor quality photography!)
